I want to preface this by saying I’m a huge fan of
dumplings. Doesn’t really matter what kind, whether they are pierogis, pal’meni,
siu mai, whatever! They’re all amazing. And I also want to say that pierogies
hold a special place in my heart. So let me tell you, when I heard that
pierogies were being offered this year, I was excited. But also, fearful. How were
they going to hold up?
So, what I received were 4 deep fried pierogies with a side
of sour cream. The flavors seemed to be potato, potato & cheese, or perhaps
a combination of both. They honestly reminded me of Mrs. T’s brand of frozen
pierogies. Which honestly wasn’t surprising, I was pretty much guessing that
they were going to be some kind of frozen brand of pierogi. However, I want to
say that deep frying the pierogies didn’t do them any favors. They were pretty
bland and uninteresting. The side of sour cream didn’t add any flavor either,
just some creaminess. I do imagine that deep frying them must be an easier way
of preparing them in this kind of environment so I can see why they did it.
Unfortunately, the pierogies this year are a big miss for me and I can’t
recommend them as they are.
